Hey Patrick,
How are you doing?

All right gang, I need your help. I'm trying to put together my kit for a canoeing trip in only two weeks.

Alright, I'll have a shot at it...

If you have never been there, the bugs are awful, the water is cold and there is no Olympus mailing list; it would be best to stay away :-)

:)))

I've set route that will require pretty hard days, so it will be important to keep the weight to minimum. On the other hand, canoes provide an opportunity to splurge on the gear side, at least more than backpacking.

O.k., so this is as far as the weight constrictions go...

What I am trying to do now is ration the space in my LowePro Mini Trekker.

...and this is a good indication of the amount of gear to bring, as I too have a LowePro Mini Trekker.

Here is what I am planning on taking in the bag (these items will be pretty inaccessible while traveling during the day):
300mm/4.5 mounted on 4T with MD1
90mm/2 macro
80mm/4 macro mounted on tele auto tube 65-116
1.4xA and 2xA stacked together
T-28 Twin w/ T-power

All this sounds good.

F280

You might also consider bringing a T32 (+ T-cord).

focusing rail, focusing stage and varimagni finder

I indeed see you like macro gear a lot. I guess you have to ask yourself roughly the macro vs. non-macro pictures ratio. In my case I would not bring these things, as I take only very little macro shots. If you take a lot of them though, it might make sense to bring these items...

other lenses I am considering: 135mm/4.5 macro, 18mm/3.5, 24mm/2.8.

I'd say go for the 18/3.5 and 24/2.8, as you're definitely missing something on the wide side of your range in the above list. Regarding the 135/4.5 macro I guess you have to figure out for yourself if you'll be doing lots of insect shots. If so, I think there's good grounds for bringing it along with the 80/4, if not, I think the 80/4 should suffice.

I have also thought about the 50-250mm/5, but that would probably require dumping something.

Tough call. Personally I like this range a lot (again: I'm not much of a macro-man), but I see your problem...

I've also thought about the 38mm/2.8 macro, but if the mosquitos are bad there is no way I will have the patience to set this up in the field without a gear head, bellows, and sturdier tripod (all of which won't be going).

Asked and answered. I'd say this lens is too specialised for the trip you're going to take... Sure enough now that I say this you'll encounter a situation in which you'd have liked to have brought it along, but IMO you're better off leaving this one home.

Here is what I am taking as a snapshot camera for portage trails and other times when we are traveling:
OM-2n with 35-70/3.5-4.5

The 35-70 is certainly a wise choice, I would put this one on the 4T though...

I'm leaning toward two MD1s and 3 control packs, but could also take Winder 2s or an MD2. What are your thoughts?

I'd probably bring only one MD1 and leave the other things (apart from 2 control packs) at home...

Anyway, here it is:
18mm/3.5, 20mm/2 macro, 24mm/2.8, 28mm/3.5, 38mm/2.8 macro, 50mm/1.4,
50mm/1.8, 50mm/2 macro, 80mm/4 macro, 90mm/2 macro, 135mm/2.8, 135mm/4.5 macro, 180mm/2.8, 300mm/4.5,

Out of these _I_ would probably pick the following:
18mm/3.5, 24mm/2.8, 28mm/3.5, 50mm/1.4, 80mm/4 macro, 90mm/2 macro, 180mm/2.8, 300mm/4.5.

something bigger that I won't admit to owning,

Ooooh, I know which one you're talking about... Definitely leave this one at home; too much hassle for too little pictures...:)

35-70mm/3.5-4.5, 35-70mm/3.6

Bring either of these two.

50-250mm/5, 70-210/3.5 Vivitar Series 1,

If you'd bring the lenses I mention above, you can pretty safely leave the both of these at home.

2xA converter, 1.4xA converter,

Bring the both of them.

OM-1n, OM-2, OM-2n, OM-4, OM-4T, OM-4Ti, T-10,

Bring the 4t and the 4ti.

T-20, T-28 Twin, T-32, F280,

Bring the T20/T32 + F280 and if you really desire to take a lot of macro pictures, bring the T28 too.

MD1 (2), MD2, Winder 2 (2),

Bring one or two MD1s.

bellows, focusing stage, variable extension tube, auto extension tubes, ND filter set, TTL cords, and other accessories, like filter, hoods, etc.

Bring the hoods, 1 TTL cord, the 65-116 and if necessary the rail + stage.

I would also like some recommendations of film. I have my favorites, but am always open to try something different.

Fuji Provia 100F and perhaps some Kodak Ektachrome E100VS; these would be my choices...

Cheers!
Olafo

PS: I'm afraid my suggestions haven't narrowed down your list to a set that will easily fit in the mini trekker, I guess that's the downside to having many toys ;) Nonetheless I think you might be able to use some of my suggestions and work out a good kit. Have lots of fun!
