Dear Sam
Congratulatons on a good purchase. Like you I started wth an OM1 (bought
new n 1979) and bought a second hand OM2n about four years ago. I
resisted for a long time because I normally don't trust any machine
that's cleverer than I am.
I must admit I don't even notice the minor differences between them
these days. I often forget which one I'm using and have to keep
checking. One thing I have had to get used to is that the OM2n can trip
up wth very contrasty lighting conditions such as a window in a small
part of the frame - then it under exposes. I find it most easy then to
slip it into manual mode.
On the subject of flash, the T32 is very nice, though heavy,
particularly for the hot shoe. I only tend to use my T32 on the bounce
grip. For a pocketable flash, which is still quite powerful I very much
like the T20. If you see one at a good price I'd advise you to grab it
(I even have a spare T20 case you can have).
As to what to tell your spouse, I have to confess to havng a wonderful
wife who:
1) Shrugs and says "You really ought to treat yourself more often"
2) Bought me a T20 when I spent a very hot week decorating the lounge.
and
3) Has just promised to buy me a Leica for my fiftieth birthday in five
years time.
(No she's not for sale !!).
I'm reminded of a quote by the wife of Stanley Kubrick (who I believe
used Pen FT's), to the effect that he had more cameras than pairs of
trousers [pants to the Americans 8^) ].
So, I hereby instigate the Stanley Kubrick award to the Zuikoholic with
the greatest ratio of OMs to trousers.
(I'm almost certainly out of the running as my ratio is about 2:8).
Come on folks, own up!
Chris
