I've not found the camera body rings aas much of a problem as the little
metal buttons that set the strap length (buttons on the vinyl strap,
pressed metal links on the woven). In the past I've sound cloth sleeves
around the links.
Another way of covering them which I've not tried is the heat shrinkable
plastic tubing used in electronics construction. It's available in many
colors including black.
