Another interesting thing about this lens: it doesn't work well with a
2-4 screen. That is what I was observing in my post yesterday. It much
easier to focus (albeit still with some difficulty) using a 1-13
screen. It's not the first lens that a 2-4 screen failed with - I've
listed other on the lens test page.
At the 35mm setting, the image looks sharp on a 2-4 screen at ANY
distance, even through a Varimagnifinder. Pretty wierd.

Now that is interesting . . .
I suspect it's because the "2-series" screens have a finer matte that
doesn't allow differentiation between in/out of focus as easily as a
coarser one. Combine that with the deeper DOF of an f/3.5~4.5 lens.
I use a 2-13 in the OM-4 which has the micro-prism ring and split
image. No problem using the micro-prism ring, especially with proper
dioptric correction on the viewfinder. I know when mine is in focus very
quickly and find myself using the ring much more than the split image. As
with any slower lens (starting about f/4) it does get tougher in low light.
