Yes, I also collect literature. It's a cheap way to collect equipment.
Brochures don't cost much.
Do you have contact info for this guy? I'd love to see his inventory.

When at a local used camera shop, I came across a guy who collects OM stuff,
but only literature. He says he has everything ever written about the OM
line (manuals, brochures, etc), but no equipment (Nikon guy).
