Thanks those of you who replied on and offlist. Conclusions: don't get the
28-80 that comes as the kit; the 28-105 is of reasonable quality although
it might block the focusing assist light; also the earlier model 50/1.8 is
quite good.
And those of you who shoot EOSs, I mean with EOSs, I won't blow your cover.
Once again this list is great!
