: How Can I use my T-20 for fill in with my OM-PC
:
: What is a 1:2 ratio when you talk of fill-in and who
: can I achieve it with my setup. The books say if the
: meter reads 125 at f8 then set the flash to give an
: output of f4....But how?
You set the camera to manual 1/60, and the flash to either Normal Auto
(=computer flash) or Manual (full dump), by flipping the rear panel of the
flash. Then you must make sure the flash gives less output then would be
necessary for the combination of working distance and aperture.
Normal Auto: the T20 gives you two working apertures: F4 and F8 (100 ASA). If
you select F4 on the flash and set the lens aperture to F5.6 or F8 the flash
will underexpose for fill flash. Hopefully one of these aperures gives correct
exposure for the background. The weakness of the T20 is that there are only two
Auto working apertures; other flashes that have more of them are more versatile.
If for instance the background really needs F4 you would need an Auto aperture
of F2.8 or F2 for fill flash.
Manual: select the desired working aperture according to the background and read
the necessary working distance. By using either a larger working distance than
what you read, or by reducing the output of the flash, it underexposes for fill
flash. The weakness of the T20 in this situation is that it only has one manual
mode: full dump at GN20. You can reduce its power by putting a diffuser (paper,
plastic) on the flash head or by covering part of the flash head by your
fingers. More versatile flashes have multiple output levels for manual flash.
