My apologies for posting this to the list, however when I attempted to send
to it the author of the original post it was returned as undeliverable.

Dylan (the peeved one), I am responding off list as it would serve no purpose
to do so in a public forum. Given your .edu email address, I am assuming you
may be in the education industry. Perhaps you are an educator or a student.
Has it occurred to you that some of us might not have the experience and
knowledge you possess in the realm of cyberspace? Assuming that is the case,
should that be a reason for the less informed to not use the list to
communicate about areas of mutual interest? Is it within the realm of
possibility that someone who doesn't no jack %#*& about HTML might have
something of value to share with the list or even you?
There is no question that some of us are lacking in knowledge about computers
but for you to assume that venting your anger about it will somehow make
things better is a little crazy. If what you were trying to do was to stop
the offending behavior, your method won't work. If you are trying to make
yourself looked good, that didn't work either.
Here is my suggestion for a possible solution. I am assuming you seek a
solution and not just a grand stand from which to speak. First thing you
might do is to listen to one of the repeat offenders. I don't have clue
about what it is I am doing that you find offensive. Remember, I don't know
jack %#*& about HTML. Your suggestion about "snipping" something is probably
a good one. Should I use my round nose scissors or would the pointed ones be
just as good? Rather than posting a post such as the one I am responding to
with this e-mail, you might try something positive along the lines of what
follows.

Subject: A list that works for everyone.
It has come my attention as a long term list member that we have all levels
of computer expertise in our members. There are two things that occur in
messages that are really disturbing to me and I assume to others. They are:
Using HTML and not snipping irrelevant material from your post.
What using HTML means is . . . .
The alternative to this is . . . . .
How you can fix it is . . . . . .

Dylan, If you want a solution this might do it for you. I could have sent
this response to the list and generated a stream of flame or shall we just
say a nonproductive discourse by the list members. My decision was not to do
that. I request you rethink your problem solving techniques and post
something to the list which will produce positive results. I'm sure you are
capable. Bill Barber
