Best to look at this from a construction point of view. Optically the
differences are nit-picking. The build quality is significantly better
than the f/4 and f/3.5~4.5, as is the design which optimizes the hood
depth when you zoom. The f/3.6 also has excellent handling for large
hands and is great in combo with a Bounce Grip 2 or T45 for such
applications as weddings, banquets and parties. Having extensively used
all three, plus sampling the 35-80mm, I'd say you get a strong feeling
of reliable pro equipment when you use the f/3.6 Of course, the 35-80mm
imparts a feeling all its own, including one of dread that you might
drop it!
