I stopped in a local pawn shop (happens to be next door to a camera shop) to
see if they had any Olympus gear today.
1 OM-1N, 50mm 1.8. Shutter curtains looked good, winds and fires, no visible
prism foam rot, but that's about the best I can say for it. Shutter speed
ring stiff, speeds sounded off. Bright, visible brassing in the mirror box
(looks like someone tried to mount a non-Olympus-compatible lens). Overall
filthy inside and out. The lens was so badly hammered around the objective
end that the f-stop dial wouldn't turn at all, glass filthy.
To my surprise the tag is marked "body only $209.95". I ask if that price is
"fixed" to which the response is "No, if you're paying cash, today." I
offered the guy $50 for it, figuring I could use it for parts, if nothing
else. He says "Are you kidding, that's only a quarter what we have it marked
at." To which my response was that they only sold for that price NEW (it's
almost exactly what I paid for mine in 1980) and that there wasn't much more
than about a quarter of it left. :-)
No wonder the pawn shops around here are always full of cameras...
