a small point:
Although most of the integrated circuits on the 2S are different from the
4/4T .The analog front end integrated circuit is common to both the 2S and
4/4T. When people say "circuits" they probably mean board. Figuring out which
i.c. is broken may be too time consuming for most reair people even if they
have the needed skills and equipment. This probably makes ic level repair
uncommon. From a reliability point of view the i.c's are often the most
reliable (except maybe the analog front end amplifier which in the OM's is
very prone to electrostatic damage because it does not include protection
diodes). In general electrolyte capacitors, potentiometers and switches have
orders of magnitude worse failure rates than i.c.s. This probably means if
circuit level debugging were done some significant number of bad boards could
be repaired as these parts are much esier to get generic replacements for.
Just speculation ...
