Well, the "thing" about architecture is that it is very hard to create
something completely new. Almost every building references some other style
from the past. So, some architects make it thier life's work to break the
mold and create something completely new. A few have succeeded. I would count
Gehry as one of those, regardless of whether you think that they are
beautiful or ugly, his style appears to me at least to be fairly "new". For
those interested in such things, another architect that came extremely close
to building "from zero" is Schindler. His North Hollywood house that he built
in 1922 was radical for its day. The only influence I can detect is Japanese.
