>From Gary Reese's tests, the f3.6 is only beaten by the 35-80/2.8; I am very
glad for my 3.6, but I expect that I would carry the 3.5-4.5 more (if I had
one!). Functionally the 3.6 is very nice, with the non-rotating front element,
and the lens hood that gives optimal coverage both at 35mm and 70mm. I suspect
that the 3.6 would last longer, as it was designed for professional use (all
those 300+ ball bearings!). I doubt that I could tell the difference optically,
unless it was a question of contre-jour, where the 3.6 lens hood would give
better protection against the light.
