Well, I think so and I believe there was confusion with the aperture and
focus ring when he mentions the lens' f-stops.
However, any SLR with a split-image focusing aid on it focus screen is
technically also a rangefinder. The split image uses two separate paths
through the prism and alignment of them for focusing follows the same
principle (triangulation) as a rangefinder that uses one image overlaid on
another.
