Hi Kelton:
Thanks for the touching story. It certainly makes other list issues
(like price statistics) insignificant in comparison.
You and I were like kids during that long lens testing session. It
couldn't have been too exciting for Dad to stand around in the hallways
of a storage unit while we shot the same subject over and over. I
recall we did engage him in the "Vanna White" routine of circling the
aperture on a Post-it Note (to identify the frame being shot). But,
most importantly, I sensed then that he was with us in the same manner I
have tried to be with my kids - a facilitator of learning and happy to
be a part in anything that expands their minds. It doesn't always
require talk, just participation. So I can understand that type of
personality, thereby gaining a glimpse of the man he was. Lucky you and
lucky him, because he can see what his mentoring developed into. Given
that beauty captures his attention, maybe his long, seemingly empty
gazes when you are with him is just him admiring the beauty of his
family.
