The 35-80/2.8 is not available in white AFAIK.
The real reason for the lenses being painted white (beige really) is that
they will not heat up as quickly or as much in the sun. As a large lens
heats up it's dimensions will change and affect its optical
characteristics.
Apart from this, a black lens could get so hot in some places, Australia
for instance, that a person could get burnt just touching it.
White lenses do tend to cost more as they are usually top of the line
lenses.
