Multi-coating, while certainly desirable, is grossly over-rated. It is
much less a necessity than many people have been duped by advertising into
thinking it is. Extra layers of some exotic element, such as extract of
butterfly eyelashes or essence of lark's vomit, won't help a poorly-made,
half plastic piece of crap lens perform better than a good single- or even
non-coated lens.

It is true that a good photographer can make a good photograph with
almost anything. However, I think if you review Gary Reese's finding
in his massive lens test compendium that MC is almost always
significantly improved compared with the SC example.
