CH Ling recently posted the url to his website where he has posted lots of
comparisons of photographs taken with his new E10 and his OM equipment. He
also offered to send anybody who asked two postcard sized prints.
I decided to take him up on this kind offer and was really
pleasantly surprised at the print quality. (Thank you CH) The prints were
done by his local one hour lab (Fuji Crystal paper), from regular film
scanned from his computer onto a Polaroid Propalette 8000. (8000x5000 pixel)
He uses Kodak gold 100 print film. Considering the steps from original
through camera to print, looking at the prints under a loupe is very
interesting although it is hard to sort out where in the
optical/electrical/optical/filter/film/paper loop noise any graininess etc
was introduced. The larger files on the website are only very slightly
compressed so probably don't contribute to loss of quality. (e.g.

I have a fairly good large (19") monitor at home and I tried
to compare the prints to highly enlarged sections of the Digital originals
from CH's website. To my eye the prints under a loupe actually look better
than the monitor screen, which was somewhat surprising.
If you are interested in Digital imaging and don't want to
spend lots of money yourself, take a look at CH's site, highly recommended. I
hope he does not get overloaded with print requests! Most of the above
information was gleaned from CH in off list discussion but I thought other
people might be interested in a brief summary.

Tim Hughes
