But here we are comparing apples and oranges. The C3030 is a digicam that
must work over as wide a range of exposures as possible. In a UMAX flatbed
paper scanner you have ideal conditions in that you control the maximum white
level. It is like being able to switch the sunlight level on with every
picture you take with your digicam. In the digi-camera unlike the flatbed the
exposure time varies as you try to collect enough photons The noise in the
digicam CCD should also be negligible under bright sunlight. In the scanner
you know you always have enough photons for pure white reflection from paper
so the CCD does not need to work over nearly as wide a range as a
digi-camera, hence the digitisation noise should be the limit.
