Previously on this thread Clint had described the detail of the energy saving
circuit in the T20. (Warning boring electrical stuff follows)

I have only just seen your reply post to my comment that the T20 is
an energy saving flash. The interesting thing with your description of the
"dump" tube switching the main SCR off, is that of course the T32 uses a
similar arrangement but replaces the "dump" tube with a second SCR. So the
T20 was a transitional design using older technology while the T32 is much
more like modern SCR flashes that have been produced since. The SCR's used in
flashes are especially rated for flash use but have a rather limited
specified life. Usually something like 5000 flashes at rated energy.
