When list traffic reaches peaks, it helps prevents mailbox overload,
esp. if the recipient is out of town for a little while. Quite a few
long term subscribers (myself included) finally had to switch over at
such times due to lost or nearly lost mail from full in-boxes on the
server. This generally happened when some off topic subject got out of
hand. Another reason is that e-mail archives will corrupt after they
get a certain number of e-mails. Back in AOL 4.x and 5.x, as well as in
Netscape Messenger, this seems to be about 64,000 messages. Since all my
business correspondence is in those archives, I have to strive not to
corrupt them.
