'Sniping' is just about the only way I will bid on ebay if I am really
trying to win an item. It imposes a certain discipline on me - I decide
what the most I would be happy to pay is, and load the snipe engine
with that number. If I don't get it, I don't have time to lose my head

Not being an ebay user, I have read these posts with half attention.
However, it suddenly occurrs to me to wonder what it will be like when
*everyone* uses sniping! After all, most serious users of ebay will
naturally want to improve their chances of winning.
