When I was a young buck working retail (in the cycle industry) I remeber an
exchange that will stay with me for the rest of my life. A cutomer walked into
the shop I worked at and spoke to the owner:
Cust: I would like to buy a Zefal pump, how much are they?
Own: $25.00
Cust: $25.00! why XYZ bike shop lists them for $22.00! Will you match their
price.
Own: No. Buy it from them we can't afford to sell them for 22. Our price is
$25.00
Cust: OH, well they are out of them right now.
Own: Oh I wish you had said that up-front, when we are out of them they are
$20.00!
The customer bought the pump!
