At 10:06 1/15/01, Titoy asked:
What do you guys mean by the acronyms:
BOKEH
Bokeh is the nature of out of focus elements in an image . . . those
objects in front and behind the depth of field (DOF). Most often
considered is what happens with objects behind the DOF, as DOF control is
more often used to isolate close objects by putting them in critical focus
and the rest visibly out of focus. What happens to objects in front of the
DOF can be important also. For some lenses, the bokeh will be different in
front of the DOF compared to behind it. How a lens handles out of focus
distinct and strong pinpoints of light, both wide open and stopped down is
possibly the toughest test. It will reveal how fuzzy the edges are and
whether the bokeh takes on the shape of the aperture blades when stopped
down. It is one of over a half-dozen lens characteristics to be considered
in choosing one. The TOPE 3 gallery from Aug/Sep 2000 celebrated bokeh and
it will give you an idea of what it is:

Olaf's abstract for it to guide participants:
Do the "hokeh bokeh" and give yourself a reason to justify buying some
expensive glass like a 100/2 or 180/2! This is the theme in which
especially the out of focus parts of the picture matters most. Take a pick
of a "bad bokeh lens", or of one of the smooth "glass bokeh wonders" to
give your demonstration of lovely or terrible bokeh.
and
ADITL?
ADITL = A Day in the Life
There are three ADITL galleries, done on or about the Summer Solstice,
Autumnal Equinox, and Winter Solstice 1999:
ADITL I: http://www.whitneygallery.com/olympus/
ADITL II: http://www.whitneygallery.com/Olympus2/
ADITL III: http://www.web-wizards.com/olympus/aditl3/
The first two were sponsored by George M. Anderson; the third by Olaf
Greve, who also sponsors the TOPE (Themed Olympus Photo
Exhibition). Unlike the TOPE's, the time window for the ADITL's was
shorter. Why where they tied to the solstices and equinox? A date for the
first one was being debated and since the solstice was approaching, the
idea for using that solved the problem. A date established by Divine
Providence versus a fellow mortal could not be questioned quite as
easily. :-)
