That's the question, I would say, they are on in the first place
to help in the process of focusing in difficult light conditions
(focusing in macro is
critical - as you know, small DOF...) and I would use them in this way.
The on/off switch on the macro heads of the T28 is so relativety small
and you will fiddle around with them, maybe takeing a risc
to unfocus all of the arangement. If you use the body/lens/shoering/T28
setup on focusing stage/rail on a tripod.
If you would use the setup on freehand I think it will make even then
sense to let the illuminator light on. Do you ever have handheld such a setup ?
This is some weight and I will not want to have to make the light off after
focusing. I think it will be hard to look through the viewfinder and then
put your hand blindle to the on/off switch.
