John -
"Instant gratification" - I hadn't strongly considered that point.
<Rant>
I have to admit I'd be much happier not living in this tecnological age
where instant gratification is increasingly demanded.
Not that I haven't taken advantage of it (like now) or that some of it
is needed.
I just long for the days when craftmanship was worth the wait.
When the craftsman would become absorbed in the task - the art,
oblivious to the rest of the world.
And for the patron, waiting was an opportunity to dream and not an
excercise in patience.
I long to be the craftsman and the patron in a place where the passage
of time is only a faint tick-tock.
So when is the next renaissance age due to begin?
