Congrats, David!
First, note that there must be film in your camera and a lens attached
for proper operation in Auto or Program modes. Next, the camera will
_not_ fire a dedicated flash in Auto or Program modes unless the
indicator in the viewfinder is at "60" or lower.
Also, be sure to use 2 silver oxide batteries ONLY - no alkaline or
lithium substitues. They will usually go dead in 6-12 months, even if
the camera sits unused. Use of a dedicated flash will significantly
reduce battery life, too.
