This thread will run and run, I just know it! Following is supposed to
be a true story, based on signals overheard by the Canadian coastguard
during dense fog off the Maritimes coast:
US Navy transmission: "Ahoy there, Canadians. To avoid a collision,
you should veer to port!"
Canadian transmission: "Sorry, can't do. You should veer to port."
US Navy transmission: "We asked first and we insist you veer to port
now!"
Canadian transmission: "Insist all you like, it is YOU who must veer to
port."
US Navy transmission: "Now listen up, son. This is the USS Missouri,
biggest goddamn warship in the world! You veer to port if you value
your lives, y'hear?"
Canadian transmission: "Understod but not impressed. Veer to port if
you value your ship."
US Navy transmission: "Didn't you hear me, dork? This is the Mighty Mo
- just who the heck do you think you are, anyway?"
Canadian transmission: "A lighthouse."
:-)
