The only problem I ran into with my Winder 2 was that, after many years of
intermittent use, the internal circuit board had somehow developed a crack.
The technician elected to replace it with a new circuit board (about $20.00
CDN, plus the usual hourly shop fees) rather than try to fix the copper traces
by bridging them. Since then (about a year ago), I've had no further problems
with the Winder 2.
I have also read that, if you're storing the Winder, take the batteries out of
the included battery carrier. Apparently, leaving the batteries in distorts
the carrier's shape just enough over long periods of time that it can no longer
make reliable electrical contact with the innards of the Winder. This info
comes from The Olympus Guy (Paul Van Tuyl), who's seen this problem a few times.
