You've brought up something about the basic difference between the gearing
in the OM film advance and some other SLRs. I've noticed that the OMs
require a definite effort to ensure the film advance cycle is completed -
not necessarily a hard or even firm pressure, just an effort to complete the
cycle. Otherwise depressing the shutter release button is difficult if not
impossible.
OTOH, other SLRs seem to have a fair amount of "overwind" - if that's the
right term - built in to the film advance mechanism. The term I'm fumbling
for has to do with mechanical advantage - other SLRs seem to have more
mechanical advantage built in.
Perhaps this difference was necessary to maintain the diminutive OM size.
