I just did a very casual test of the above lens with aperture f8 at focal
lenghts of 19, 28 and 35. (I couldn't lay my hands on my 24mm). These were
compared to Zuikos of 21/3.5, 28/2, and 35/2.8. At 35mm I found the Vivitar
to be slightly sharper with the Zuiko having better contrast in the corners.
At 28mm my Vivitar was very slightly sharper than the Zuiko at both center
and edge. The Zuiko pulled ahead at 21mm showing excellent sharpness and
contrast, both center and edge. The corners of the Vivitar fell off with
regards to contrast at the edge and showed significant light fall-off in the
corners (even here at f8).
I just picked up the Vivitar at B&H for $140 or so. This would present a good
alternative to prime Zuikos. Also, due to all the plastic, the lens feels
like it is made out of a feather. The supplied lens hood is hardly more than
a joke. This lens will help me with filters as it has the same 77mm filter
size as my Tamron 80-200/2.8. I don't know how long this lens will stay
together.
