I found dust to be a huge problem when I started scanning. I found that a
jumbo hurricane hand blower works great after my neg's are in the carrier.
Canned air can always spit, so I don't use it very often. I hold the negs up
to the ceiling light at an angle and look for specs. It just takes too long to
get ride of dust during image processing; it's worth the time to get a good
scan in the 1st place. [Note, I have a Minolta Scan Dual with a 5 strip
plastic neg. holder, so other film holders may not lend themselved to what I'm
describing...]
I've never had a problem with vuescan, sorry it's messing up your box.

So how do you get rid of the dust, my friends?
