Thanks for your comments, Ray. Actually the exposure is just about perfect,
but the scan is mediocre. I was in a hurry to get the pix processed and had
a local Wal-mart do 'em. Their one-hour lab produces only high contrast
matte prints which seldom scan well. Our local Winn-Dixie grocery stores
use Konica processors and produce much better moderate contrast prints on
glossy paper.
I don't want to bore the list with other snapshots but have noticed that
this particular combination of Fuji Superia Xtra 800 and the pie pan flash
reflector/diffuser does work better when either the film EI is reduced to
400, or some other form of compensation is used. I lack the technical
expertise to describe the effect, but I've noticed that color saturation is
much richer when the film is derated, or the aperture is opened a stop or so
wider. Shooting at 800 produces properly exposed pix with the pie pan flash
reflector/diffuser, but they lack the rich color.
None of this really applies to shooting Superia Xtra with ambient light,
altho' the film has wide exposure latitude anyway.

That's a durned good result, thanks for sharing it! It's interesting to see
that the reflected flash is so tiny; at first glance, I thought it was a
lamp in the yard outside. As you say, Lex, the lighting from the flash is
even, although the picture is a little dark overall,
especially the people's faces. I realize this was experimental and maybe a
bit of bracketing would have helped?
