Your 35/2.8's performance is probably as good or better than the
40/2. Don't translate the 40/2's rarity and prici-ness to optical
excellence. It's a nice lens, but not an outstanding performer. IMO, the
50/1.8 is better. (This isn't sour grapes. My 40/2 is safely in the
equipment case.)
