Dear Chuck and all of you who have so nicely written me repeatedly with so
much help:
The scanner works! Not in the pooter I wanted to use....one a bit
slower...but it at least works!!! And not in 36-bit..only 24...but that may
be the aging video card...
I have great advice for any of you dealing with Acer support. If at first you
don't get a good body on the phone..call back. The third time was the trick
for me..the first two wanted to "send it back to look at it"...but the third
knew exactly what it was doing and told me to take out the cheap plastic
slide holder and see if it was bowed...(it was..I would snap it shut, but it
would come back bowed open). So he airmailed me a new carrier and it works
like a charm! He actually had seen, touched, and used the scanner!! (He has
one himself!)
When I scan on 36-bit it starts and scans about 1/2 inch..then the whole scan
goes into bitmap blur...I suspect it has a very minimal 24-bit card in that
computer..will check it out. Not impressed with the Miraphoto software and
will tongiht download Mr. Hamrick's Vuescan.

Now, on to replace my speaker surrounds...
