Not quite right. To activate spot mode you press both the buttons
simultaneously and a circle-with-a-dot-in-the-middle icon should appear.
when you press the shutter release to the first stop, whatever is in the
cross in the viewfinder will be focused on and metered from. I don't
know exactly how big the spot is, though.
