This is a bit of the search for the holy grail for Med. Format users as there
is no economical system available yet. At the top are the drum scanners
(Imacon Flextite for $10,000). There is a Minolta Dimage Dual Multi or
something like that that scans MF at only about 1200 dpi($2000). Others use a
Umax Powerlook or Agfa Duoscan flatbed with trans adapter ($600). Recently
Espon has come out with a Perfection 1600?? ($300) that scans at 1200 x 2400
with supposed Dmax at 3.2 (though many doubt the claimed stats). At the low
end (my end) I use an Acerscan 620PT ($89) that is satisfactory for most web
images.
I think I have heard that Polaroid is going to be the first with a dedicated
120 format scanner. But it will not be inexpensive. It is too bad that MF
uses can't get as much quality out of their systems as 35mm users out of
theirs. My Olympus/Photosmart scans are much better than my Acerscan 600 DPI
scans.
