Yup, I'm kicking myself over having missed the chance to buy a couple of
those Minolta close up lenses at the camera shop that went out of business
this summer. Could have picked 'em up for about $20 each.
Still, unlike most single element close up lenses, Olympus' are coated.
Dunno how much difference that makes - maybe a bit since I often use flash.
The advantage to Olympus' single element CU over the iS-series version is
the former is threaded for a lens hood while the latter is not.
The iS-series Cu is slotted for a flash diffuser that comes with the kit. I
make my own from white styrofoam plates - works just as well for softening
light and reducing red-eye.

You know, Lex, Minolta makes highly corrected achromats with 49mm
filter-sized threads which could boost the macro performance of your 50mm
F/1.8.
