Imagine a revolution in extra low dispersion glass being [CHEAPER]!
THAT would turn the old world lense manufacturing industry on its head.
I guess if the Fovean corporation could make a chip with 16.8 million pixels
and hope to eventually flood the market to the point that these chips could
be used in reasonably priced disposable cameras then ELD glass at a very
reasonable price is an idea whose time has come and [IMHO],long overdue.
"Olympus representatives told us it would probably cost about $600. - If
true, that's pretty cheap by 35mm standards for a lens of that length and
aperture".{From the E10 article] ...and thanks Chip! great information.

Subject: [OM] Anyone for an Olympus 420mm f2.8 lens?

Well not exactly, but 'practically'. The new Olympus E10 4 megapixel
digicam
has a f2.0 '35mm to 140mm equivalent' zoom, but an optional front mounting
accessory lens turns it into a '420mm equivalent' f2.8 lens.
This is a pretty impressive camera and accessory system given it's
expected
price. It is pretty obvious that Olympus engineering talent is being hard
spent on projects other than making an OM digital body...
You can review it's optics here:
