Yup, when used appropriately (iS-series teleconverters to extend telephotos,
not wide angles) they'll work just fine. Improper combinations result in
vignetting. Keep in mind that in Gary Reese's tests he noted some
pincushion distortion. However I don't know whether measurable pincushion
distortion equates with visible distortion.
FWIW, I've used the multi-element macro diopter lens intended for the iS-1/2
series on my Zuiko 50/1.8 and 70-150/4 and the results compare very
favorably with a 50/3.5 macro. Not nearly as convenient, of course, and
care to prevent flare is required.

lenses...With no loss of speed and marginal effect on image quality?
