The $200 deductable policy I have isn't related to homeowner's/renter's
insurance. It is a business inventory policy that doesn't require a
schedule of assets, the way an "Inland Marine" policy *does* for
equipment you use in the course of business activities - a policy I also
have and which also has a $200 deductable. It is the business inventory
policy that is covering postal shipments. The cost is so low that it
will pay for itself with just a few shipments per month.
A good agent will be up on all this. Homeowner's/Renter's policies only
cover non collectables that aren't used for profit motives/work
activities. You'll need to prove ownership if they are lost or damaged.
I guess that covers a "Kodak Instamatic from Grandma in the box of
college stuff I never threw away." If you have a plastic Diana in the
box, forget it - its a collectable.
