:AFAIK it is not discontinued, at least not the S version. It just seems Olympus
:Sweden stopped importing it this year (i.e. they withdraw it from their price
:list). It is very unfortunate also because the last two years or so the
:Centurion/S/ has been sold at a very favourable price here in Sweden (~2500 SKR
at
:photo mail order stores).
In Denmark it appears to be discontinued (confirmed by a dealer who sold 150 of
them last year, and can not get more). A few S models are still available in
some dealers, but the price of dkr.2700 (about $320, but including the 25%
Danish sales tax) is not too attractive - the price is supposedly discounted by
25%. I bought a NIB standard Centurion for dkr.1600 a few months ago. The
above-mentioned dealer told me that the Olympus rep. had told him that a
possible replacement was on the way....I do not believe it).

:Exactly how does this work Hans? This may seem like a stupid question, but I
mean,
:are you told by the camera to engage the flash when there's insufficient light?
:Hopefully the CMOS sensor is rather light sensitive (as in iS-300) so that the
:assist light doesn't have to be used very often. Anyway, this must also be the
way
:the simple line iS cameras work.

The camera gives a signal in the viewfinder - 'AF' flashes, and there is a flash
symbol. I find the flashes annoying too. Max focusing distance with flash
assistance is about 5 meters.....
I much prefer my daughter's IS-3000 infrared focusing. I hope to buy a new
IS-3000 tomorrow....
