Firstly, welcome to the List. For advice on OM from a great group of
people, you've certainly chosen well!

On OM camera bodies, if money's tight but you want spot metering you
could try starting with the 2S. It would be advisable to have a camera
of that vintage cleaned, lubed and adjusted (CLA'd) by John Hermanson,
a List member and Oly service specialist. There are plenty of examples
of the 2S on the market at reasonable prices. Mine has always given me
decent results, apart from when the film advance played up (it's been
fixed now). Admittedly, it uses up batteries quickly but as long as you
feed it silver oxides (*don't* use alkalines!) you should be able to
get several months of serviceable life from them. I also have a 2N but
I haven't tried the 3T(i) or 4T(i).

As to lenses, MC *is* important on some lenses, notably the 50/1.4. I
have an SC version and have moaned at length in previous postings about
it. Again, though, if money's tight don't overlook the 50/1.8. A late
MC version of this lens has pretty respectable performance and can be
bought very cheaply. With the money you save over a 50/1.2, you could
buy a wide angle, too, if it suits you.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest you take a look at Gary
Reese's Zuiko lens tests at:

For descriptions and illustrations of the full OM system, see the
Unofficial OM Sales Information File at:
http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/veluwen/om-sif.htm
Finally, to see average prices at which Zuiko lenses have been sold on
eBay, look at Skip Williams' table at:
http://www.skipwilliams.com/olympus/zuiko_ebay_history.htm

Good luck in your search. May OM be as enjoyable to you as it is for
the rest of us.

Regards
