One of my setups is as follows:
two cheap Vivitar $10 miniflashes, Cokin adapter ring for 49mm, bits of angle
bracket screwed to the adapter, and rubber band to attach flash to bracket.
TTL is difficult either with the ring flash or the twin flash when you are
taking pics of say, for example, insects on twigs. TTL will base its exposure
on the background and not the subject. Here you are better off using manual
calculations.
