Frank -
Though a ring flash will certainly provide even
lighting for macro nature photography, and might be a
good choice for a scientist, the esthetic nature
photographer tends to avoid it, preferring a setup
that will cast 'natural' looking shadows - like two
small flashes, one stonger or closer than the other.
Having said that, I've certainly taken some nature
macro photos with the T10 ring flash that I found
pleasing.
