I want to make a new, electronic catalogue of my Olympus equipment,
and therefore I am looking for a cataloging program.
I'd be glad to volunteer my FileMaker Pro 5 database as a template.
OTOH I do not want to use one of the big
database programs for this task when perhaps a tailored piece of
software already exists.
Why not? The beauty of a database is it is so easily changed. For example:
The software should be capable to hold at least item descriptions
including a few pictures of each item, values (purchase and actual),
age, condition, location, Olympus part number, documentation.
It's unlikely you're going to find "off the shelf" software that will
include all these things in searchable fields, unless it is actually
a thinly-disguised database.
Mine is tailored toward buying/selling, and includes:
AskingPrice, AverageUsedPrice, Condition, FararrHigh, FararrLow,
ForSale, Item, ItemType, Length, NewDealer, NewPrice, Notes,
PriceLabel, PurchaseDate, PurchasePrice, Ratio, SampleConditions,
SampleDates, SampleDealers, SamplePrices, SellDate, SellPrice,
SerialNumber.
I have a separate database just for technical information on lenses
with 25 fields.
I'd be glad to add a few fields if you're uncomfortable doing so.
