It's interesting that you would read that into the simple question,
"Have you ever worked and lived in a foreign country?"
It's interesting that I read the same thing into your simple question that
Robert did. Perhaps because the implication was obvious?
I think you and I have the same problem I had with my ex, who was a
strong Judger. I'm a strong Perceiver. These are Meyers-Briggs terms,
and is not meant as a criticism (although if you really are a Judger,
you'll probably take it as criticism :-).
I would always say, "These two things are different in these
interesting ways," and my ex would say, "I love this, and that's a
crock of shit!" This different way of looking at things kept us in
constant misunderstanding and defensiveness, and eventually, divorce.
I tend to carefully evaluate all possible sides of the Meyers-Briggs tests
and conclude that they are a crock of shit. But I could be wrong. I
wouldn't want to hurt anybody's damned feelings.
Keep your guns. They aren't any good. The big corporations have won,
and your guns can't do a single thing about it. Guns are impotent in
today's war of ideas. In fact, I think a lot of the scuttlebut over
guns is just to keep us from thinking of the REAL issues!
True, to some extent. As predicted many years ago today's wars are of
ideas, with perceptions orchestrated by masters of illusion. Yesteryear's
Minuteman is now Jefferson's golem. No man today can take up arms against
the institution perceived as The Government without being cast as a
criminal. Nor can any truly independent candidate be regarded as an equal
in the bipartisan clique.
Not, at least, as long as the economy holds up.
Because, realistically, that's all most people care about: personal comfort;
our things; the safety zone that allows us to luxuriate in compassion for
others while experiencing none of their pain.
I expect a serious economic collapse to occur in my lifetime, accompanied by
the most confusing civil war ever seen on Earth, in which no side seems
quite right or just, and most Americans wander dazed and wondering what
happened to the good times. By then I expect to be too old or weary to
carry a weapon. But I hope to be able to carry a a camera and record some
of it. The irony amuses me.
