Yaknow Dave,it's probably not the lense. I've only used it a few times since
I bought it. So I chalk it up to lack of experience which will disappear
with practice.

Interesting. I've got the same Spiratone 400/6.3 and have had (all things
considered) excellent luck with it. It's a bear about picking
up/amplifying
flare (read that point it away from the sun all the time <g>), but the
sharpness is almost-but-not-quite-as-good as my Zuiko 300/4.5, and the
contrast matches it.
