John, I learned with my first roll of Kodachrome through my OM-1 that light
leaking through the viewfinder will throw off the metering. I think the
metering cell is located beneath the prism where light can be reflected onto
it. The side benefit, OTOH, is that I think this meter doesn't require a
circular polarizer (tho' I use one anyway). My Canon FTbn beam splitter
meter is impervious to stray light messing up the metering, but it needs a
circular polarizer.
I get by with either a generic eyecup or cupping my hand over the prism.
With fast print film the half-stop or so metering error won't matter, but it
definitely does with slow slide films.
