"Brassing" doesn't mean much anymore. When the chromey finish is rubbed off
a Canon AE-1 you get a peek at milky plastic resin beneath. If I'm not
mistaken there's cast zinc beneath the finish on a Leica. (Nothing wrong
with cast zinc, BTW - it's tough stuff.)

...I was surfing e-bay and found an OM-1
MD black which had "brassing" on the top plate.
...I have an OM-1 MD black with a "brassed" top plate,
but the metal under the black paint is either stainless steel or some kind
of aluminum alloy, not brass.
